Coaching Journey

Melissa currently serves as the Technical Director and 16 Junior National Coach at Synergy Volleyball Club.

With over 30 years of coaching experience, Melissa is a highly accomplished volleyball coach. She has successfully coached high school and college teams, shaping the careers of over 200 athletes who have gone on to play Division 1 volleyball, including her four talented daughters. Not only that, Melissa has guided countless athletes to play in Division II, Division III, and the NAIA.

Throughout her coaching journey, Melissa has achieved remarkable milestones. She has secured victories in the USA National Qualifiers and consistently finished in the top 10 in the Open Division at all age levels.

Melissa’s coaching career began in 1988 as an Assistant Coach at San Diego State. She then took on the role of Head Coach at Torrey Pines High School and Coast VBC from 1990 to 1995. Following that, she served as the Head Coach at Saddleback VBC from 1995 to 1999 and continued her coaching tenure as an Assistant Coach at the University of Delaware from 1999 to 2001.

In 2004, Melissa became an Assistant Coach at Avon Grove High School and took on the position of Head Coach from 2009 to 2011. She also served as the Director of Freedom VBC in 2012 and 2013. Melissa’s dedication to the sport led her to Synergy Volleyball in 2001, where she currently serves as the Head Coach for our 16 Junior National team. In 2019, she further demonstrated her expertise as the Head Coach of Avon Grove JV.

With her extensive coaching background and remarkable success, Melissa continues to inspire and empower young athletes to achieve their full potential on and off the court.

Playing History & Honors

During her college years, Melissa played for the University of Arizona and received numerous accolades, including being named to the All PAC Freshman Team in 1982, All PAC 2nd Team in 1983, and All PAC 1st Team in both 1984 and 1985. Additionally, she was recognized as an All American 2nd Team player in 1984 and All American 1st Team player in 1985.

Her talent and passion for volleyball led her to represent the United States on the national stage. From 1985 to 1989, she proudly served as a member of the USA National Volleyball Team. Her dedication and hard work paid off when she had the incredible opportunity to compete as a volleyball Olympian in the 1988 Seoul, South Korea Olympics.
